Access by Appointment

From Monday 27th July, a small number of study spaces will be available for booking by faculty, researchers and postgraduates between 9.30 and 4.30, Monday to Friday.

Book a Study Space

A small number of study spaces are available for booking in the Grand Reading Room on the ground floor of the Library.  Normal occupancy of 54 persons has been reduced to 19 persons in line with 2 metre social distancing guidelines.

Access to this study room is strictly by prior appointment via a seat-reservation system.  You must bring confirmation of your booking, together with your UL ID Card, to be admitted into the library building.  Only those with confirmed seat reservations may enter the Grand Reading Room.

Terms & Conditions

Access will be subject to the following terms & conditions, failure to comply with these will result in being asked to leave the library

  • Please sit at the seat letter that corresponds to your booking confirmation - do not sit at another seat as this may be allocated to another library user. 
  • Do not move or rearrange furniture – furniture is in dedicated places for your safety. 
  • No food or drink (except water in a reusable bottle) is permitted.
  • Access in the library is only within the designated study areas and bathrooms on the ground floor. 
  • If you have to cancel your booking, please do so ASAP in order to maximise bookings.
  • There is no access to the library book shelves or to the upper floors at present for library users
  • Books must be requested in advance via our Click & Collect service https://www.ul.ie/library/click-collect. These books will only be available once you receive a confirmation email from the library. If you need to use these items at a study desk, you should wait to receive a confirmation email that the books are available before booking a seat.
  • If you need access to theses, you will need to contact the library via Ask Us, with the specific title of the thesis and the time, date and number of your seat booking.
  • Please bring your own laptop, as there is no access to laptop lending or PC's at present
  • The Grand Reading room operates on a self-cleaning of desk/chair basis. Please clean down your study area before and after use, using and disposing of supplied wipes in the designated PPE bins provided.
  • Please comply with all signage and guidance regarding cough etiquette, hand hygiene and social distancing.  https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/protect-yourself-and-others.html 
  • Hand sanitiser is located outside the Reading Room. 
  • Masks currently are not mandatory in the library. However, feel free to wear a mask/face visor if you wish. 
  • If you have symptoms of Covid 19, please maintain at least 2m distance, put on a mask (if you have one) and notify a member of staff immediately

Can I access the library shelves?

There is no access to the library book shelves at present for library users, and no face to face library service. Contact with library staff will continue via our online channels only.  If you wish to speak to a member of staff please contact us through Ask Us or email libinfo@ul.ie

Access is only to the Grand Reading Room and bathrooms on the ground floor.  Please request books in advance via our Click & Collect service 

 

What facilities are available/unavailable within the Library

  • There is no access to other floors in the library 
  • There is no access to a lift 
  • There is currently no access to library PCs or lending laptops 
  • Bathrooms are only available on the ground floor, currently the only ones open are on the opposite side of the ground floor to the grand reading room, when you come in the gates turn right. All the other bathrooms have been closed off.
  • No food or drink (except water in a reusable bottle) is permitted in the library 
  • Study access is only permitted in The Grand Reading Room, ground floor of the library 
  • Contact with library staff will continue via our online channels only; there is currently no face-to-face service.  Please see contact us details below.
