Image of hearts, to represent love your data

It’s important to love our data. The best way to love our data is to have robust data management policies.

Here are a few reasons why good data management policies are good for you and why you should take the time to do it well.

  1. Efficiency
Well-managed data is easier to find, understand, analyse, validate, and share.
  2. Compliance
Funders, institutions, and publishers have policies governing how data is managed and shared.
  3. Research Integrity
Data Management is a core ethics and research integrity principle. Want to do some Research Integrity training? Email RITraining@ul.ie
  4. Reusability
Data that is appropriately managed and described supports published research conclusions resulting in less retractions. If you wish to publish the data underlying your publications you can publish the data  in our Zenodo Community and make your publications Open Access by depositing the accepted manuscript in our repository ULIR
  5. Citations and acknowledgement
You can be cited for data sets in the same way that you can be cited for a published paper! And openly accessible data sets correlate to an increase in citations! The Library is a member of datacite and can help you to publish. Contact us if you want to know more.
