The Glucksman Library is going Green

Say No to Single Use in the Library

In Ireland it is estimated that 22,000 single-use cups are disposed of every hour and more than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans every year (, 2019)

From Monday 9th September the library will strongly discourage use of single use containers

Reusable cups, bottles and containers that have a lid are permitted in the library, subject to the library Food & Drink policy

Reusable Cups

All first year UL students can claim a free reusable cup from the UL campus shop, using the voucher in their orientation welcome pack. Reusable cups can be purchased on campus from the Campus Shop, the library, and other vendors.

Many cafés on campus offer a discount on hot beverages if you bring your own reusable cup, including the Library Plaza Café which offers a 20c discount on tea or coffee.

Fill up at the Fountain / Reusable Bottles

There are four water fountains in the library where you can fill up your water bottle for free.  The library has refilled 420,000 bottles since installation of the fountains in October 2018 – lets raise that figure!

By reusing a water bottle, we can prevent plastic waste through the reduction in single use bottles.

Reusable water bottles are available to buy from the library information desk.

We Need You!

Over 1.06 million people came into the library last year.  As one of the busiest buildings on campus we can make a real difference and are committed to making the Glucksman Library greener - future plans include reducing waste and conserving energy, however we can only do any of this with your help, so join us!

By making a small change, we can all make a big difference!
