Digital upskilling for teaching: mobile video storytelling workshop

Author: Peter Reilly
Categories: Video storytelling workshop
When: Monday, May 17, 2021 - 15:45

The Glucksman Library is hosting a video storytelling workshop on Friday May 21st.

This online workshop will teach participants how to create high quality, low-cost open educational resources (OER) in video format using a smartphone. In the process, attendees will become more confident in using storytelling as an effective technique to engage their students.  Participants will be encouraged to think about ways to incorporate digital storytelling in to their own teaching, and will have an opportunity to create a new resource and appraise the effectiveness of video storytelling for teaching and student engagement.

Former RTE Journalist and media production consultant and trainer, Aileen O’Meara will deliver this session. In the session, Aileen will help participants to sharpen their skills and build their confidence, and produce a video they can use in their own teaching.  David Moloney, UL’s Project Lead for the IUA project "Enhancing Digital Capacity in Irish Universities" will deliver the opening address. David will reflect on how the current pandemic accelerated the transition to an online learning environment for many institutions. David will also discuss how video can potentially be aligned to various strands of the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu).

The library received funding from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education to host this workshop.

The event is now fully booked and you can follow the events of the day on the Twitter hashtag #NFSeminar
