9 June 2017 marks International Archives Day

Categories: Archives; Special Collections; #IAD17
When: Friday, June 9, 2017 - 11:45

9 June is International Archives Day (#IAD17), a global celebration of the richness and diversity of archives, and an opportunity for archivists and records managers to promote a stronger awareness and understanding of their work. Sometimes misapprehensions exist that archives are challenging to access or exist only for historians. IAD helps to demystify archives and emphasise their openness and inclusivity.

The archives housed at the Glucksman Library are a treasure trove of resources for students, faculty, researchers, and the wider community. They support scholarship and discovery by preserving and providing access to unique resources relating to literature, politics, business, landed estates, oral histories and much more. You’ll find a wealth of primary sources and other historical materials within these collections, from manuscripts and photographic prints and negatives, to film and sound recordings, cartographic resources and architectural plans.

For those who haven’t had an opportunity to visit us in person, follow us on Twitter @UL_SpecColl where we join archives around the world in showcasing documents relating to tourism in our collections using the #archivestourism.
