Thu, 04 May 2017

Under Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM), the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance welcomed two academics, Fadi Deeb and Ahmad Al Khatib, BirZeit University, Palestine in April for a week of teaching, exchange and collaboration, reciprocating a visit by Dr Niall Keegan and Avril Mc Loughlin to Palestine earlier this year.

To celebrate the occasion UL were joined by Mary May and Mary Dunne, Higher Education Authority and the Palestine Ambassador Mr. Ahmad Abdelrazek and guests.

A morning of performances by students showcased the talents and expertise in the teaching and learning of music and dance. Guests were treated to music from both Ireland and Palestine, with a captivating blended performance using traditional instruments from both countries.

This project will further enrich the world music BA at UL and BirZeit University have just commenced the first BA in Arab music in Palestine, where practices from the IWA will be implemented.

Erasmus+ ICM provides opportunities for staff and students to study, teach and train in countries outside Europe. It opens up new regions for staff and student mobility to strengthen partnerships, and engage with new fields of international research.

This allows universities to establish strong connections and develop partnerships with new institutions. The University of Limerick currently manages four ICM projects spanning 25 countries outside Europe. ICM is managed by the HEA in Ireland.
