Desmond Leddin MB. MSc, FRCPC, FRCPI
Head of Graduate Entry Medical School, Faculty of EHS.
As a clinician in an academic health centre he has been intensely involved in front line clinical work.
He has been involved in every stage of medical education from mentoring pre-med students to revision of the undergraduate curriculum at Dalhousie. He participated in development of the management section of the Can MEDS framework. He chaired the Royal College of Canada examination board in Gastroenterology and merged the French and English boards into a single unit. He was chair of the World Congress of Gastroenterology Training centers. He has been the recipient of numerous national education awards.
Administrative experience includes head of the Gastroenterology and Liver unit at Dalhousie for over a decade and deputy head of medicine for nearly five years. He has chaired numerous national and international committees and is a past President of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology.
Research work is focused on colon cancer prevention and patient access to care. Recently he has taken over as chair of the World Gastroenterology research committee with a focus on digestive disease in the developing world.
