HRI member Dr Hilary Moss, Professor of Music Therapy at UL's Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, has been featured in a recent RTÉ Brainstorm article examining the role of arts and culture in supporting health and wellbeing through social prescribing.

The article explores growing evidence that engagement in arts and cultural activities can positively impact both mental and physical health. Social prescribing enables healthcare and community practitioners to refer individuals to non-clinical supports and activities, including music, singing, dance, visual arts and other creative community programmes.

Dr Moss also emphasises the importance of accessibility and community engagement when developing arts-based health initiatives, noting that successful programmes must be designed around the needs and preferences of participants in order to maximise their impact. She highlights UL's commitment to community-engaged practice and research in this area.
