Learning & Development offer several programmes throughout the year to help you focus on developing your career and plan to achieve your future career goals. Also available are resourses that will help make the most of your CV and preparing for interviews for your career progression.

Career Development

The aim of this programme is to support participants in thinking strategically about their career and to develop the skills to support the achievement of their career goals.

This programme takes place over four highly interactive three-hour virtual modules. The modules include Getting to know your Strenghts, Setting yourself up for Success, Expanding your Network and growing your Influence and Turning obstacles into opportunities.

In addition, guest speakers will share their own inspirational career journeys. Upon completion of the workshops, each participant will have a one-to-one coaching session to further support their personal career advancement pathway.

The Career Development and Training for Support Staff programme was well planned out and executed and the presenters were engaging, empathetic and encouraging in the delivery of new ideas.

It was particularly effective in that it encouraged me to think about myself and my career in ways I have never done before.

The modules were interactive and the guest speakers were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the smaller breakout sessions with colleagues, which encouraged engagement beyond the mere day-to-day professional experience.

The one on one coaching session was also of considerable value and allowed a focused discussion to further explore the issues discussed broadly in the earlier modules.

Alan Owens, Communications Officer

I had the opportunity to participate in the Career Planning and Development for Support Staff programme and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The course instructors (Maeve and MaryAnn) were knowledgeable and engaging. They course content was informative and highly practical.

The virtual nature of the delivery (online and 4 half-day sessions) made the course very accessible and easy to organise within my work schedule. The timing between sessions was well planned and allowed sufficient time to reflect and consider the content. The small group size allowed us to get to know other participants and build our network with colleagues from across UL.

The invited speakers where a real highlight and it was so nice to hear from UL colleagues who shared their career journey and advice on strategically pursuing career goals. The 1 to 1 coaching session was a fantastic opportunity to receive personalised feedback and guidance. This course is both empowering and motivating and I would highly recommend it to colleagues.

The Career Planning & Development for Support Staff Programme is a positive and worthwhile programme and I gained a great deal from it.

The modules are very practical and immediately applicable, and its interactive format gives a valuable chance to engage with colleagues across the campus and expand one’s personal network.  I really welcomed the chance to tease out the interesting principles covered during the modules and to liaise with and learn from colleagues in this way.

The inclusion of talks by guest speakers and the coaching session were additional positives and overall, I came away from the programme with a refreshed perspective.  I have already warmly recommended this programme to colleagues.
