1. Be Well @ UL - Overview
The University of Limerick Human Resources Division has an active role to play in the health and well-being of UL employees. During the year there is an active calendar of events and initiatives that are run for the benefit of all UL employees, covering health and physical exercise, nutrition and wellbeing, personal finance, personal development, stress management among others. The University of Limerick is committed to maintaining and improving the well-being of all staff at work and the HR Division works to ensure that there is a programme of events each year to meet that goal. In order to continue to do this, it is important that the Division is in tune with employee needs in the area of well-being at work, that factors affecting people’s well-being are clearly identified and managed effectively in order to maintain a positive and thriving working environment.

A university-wide staff survey was undertaken in 2015. Thank you for your input to this survey. This forms the basis of the action plan which is now available.

3. Employee Wellness
Each semester Human Resources provide an employee wellbeing programme for staff on campus, encouraging participation in a number of activites over the course of the academic year. these include:
Couch to 5k-Takes place over a 10 week period twice a year with two training sessions per week. The trainer will assess your fitness with the eventual aim of helping the participant to complete a 5k run by the end of the programme
Mini Health Screening-To raise awareness of your health, employees are invited to avail of a Mini Health Screening where in a private 10minute consultation, Occupational Health Nurses will test for Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose and Total Cholesterol
Musculoskeletal Screening-Chartered physiotherapists perform posture and flexibility assessments on staff members throughout the day. This will involve a brief interview followed by a musculoskeletal assessment. Following this assessment an appropriate exercise programme will be prescribed. This exercise programme will aim to help and prevent problems such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain etc. Assessments take approximately 15minutes.
Chair Massage-A 10minute on-site Chair Massage is a practical approach to relaxing and reversing the harmful effects of stress, both physical and psychological. On-site chair massage is over the clothes and requires no oils, so it is both easy and convenient to use. You will experience a unique massage covering the back, neck and shoulders using a blend of traditional massage, acupressure and shiatsu techniques giving your body and mind a well deserved break
Stress Management Workshops-Workshops are held on stress management where recommendations are given on building your resilience to stress and practical exercises are demonstrated to help relieve stress. Discussions areheld on how stress can affect your work perfomance and general behaviour.
Money Skills for Life- National consumer agency provide a talk on money topics including effective money ande debt management, tips on getting best value insurance and loans, planning for later in life and on how to save and invest.
Unislim-Unislim is Ireland's longest running slimming and health organization with weekly meetings organized by a team of inspiring class leaders. The Unislim programme (8 weeks) is based on a healthy, nutritious eating plan combined with increased exercise.
