University of Limerick Students Initiate First Inter-Campus Biodiversity Recording Blitz

UL Student Sustainability be hosting the next instalment of our Conversation Series (and final one for this semester!) on SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth with Stephen Kinsella, Full Professor of Economics, Head of the Department of Economics, and Co-Director of Immersive Software Engineering at University of Limerick.
Also serving as a Research Associate at the Rhodes Centre for International Finance at Brown University, Stephen is actively involved in spearheading research projects like +CityxChange, INCASE, and SMARTLAB for UL. His primary research interests encompass smart cities, novel regional partnerships, economic networks, and the integration of natural capital concepts into mainstream economic thought.

UL Student Sustainability will be hosting the next instalment of our Conversation Series focusing on SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, with Paddy Finn, CEO of VIOTAS, a smart grid company delivering services that allows commercial and industrial customers to earn revenue by becoming active participants on the power system.

UL Student Sustainability be running a student-led debate around the topic of who should be responsible for ensuring access to clean water. UL’s Law Society will be collaborating on this, so we are looking forward to a lively debate!

UL Student Sustainaiblity will be hosting the next instalment of our Conversation Series, focusing on SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, with Chidi Usanga, PhD candidate at UL, who is focusing on the River Shannon under the Faculty of Science & Engineering’s Sustainability programme.
The project, titled “Giving Voice to Nature: Digitally Enabled Human-Nature Interaction to Support Restoration Practices in the Shannon River”, aims to enable the non-human natural entities in/around the river communicate and interact with humans through new and emerging digital technologies.

In our next Conversation Series for SDG 5, we are joined by Rabya Ali, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Manager for the Technological University of Shannon. Rabiya has worked with UN Migration as a consultant where she engaged in a project to help prevent sexual and gender- based violence against migrants. She also is currently a part of EIGE’s (European Institue for Gender Equality) Expert Pannel where she helps the EIGE with Gender based violence, Gender Mainstreaming, Knowledge management, and Research and statistics. She also had experience as a consultant for the Council of Europe, the manager for Ascend Domestic Abuse Service for the North Tipperary Development Company, an Equality expert for Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, and so much more.

Join UL Student Sustainability for our next panel discussion all about SDG 5: Gender Equality. We will be joined by UL Student Life, Medical Society, Literary Society, and Out in UL to deep-dive into the topic, along with the most pressing challenges and opportunities to advance this Goal.

Join UL Student Sustainability and UL Global on Thursday at 6pm in the Kemmy Business School for the final presentations and graduation for the inaugural cohort of the Global Leadership for Sustainable Development programme. This was a six-week programme run between UL Global and UL Student Sustainability. The students will be presenting mission project proposals that will impact UL and its surrounding areas.

Join Student Sustainability's third installment of the SDG Conversation Series with the speaker for this week, Cllr Daniel Butler, Health and Wellbeing Improvement Officer in the HSE and Chairperson of MyMind Centre for Wellbeing Limerick.
A proud graduate of UL, Cllr Butler served as the Mayor of Limerick between 2021 and 2022 and is currently involved in multiple significant initiatives across Limerick. We are thrilled to welcome him as he shares his insights and experiences related to SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing.
