The Masters in Public History and Cultural Heritage is a response to an increasing demand by public history employers for highly skilled graduates. Its modules combine both academic and vocational characteristics, providing a grounding in those wishing to work within history based tourism and the growing field of television history, as well as the expanding digital environment which is opening up new channels for the public sharing and consumption of history.
Public history forms an innovative new strand of historical inquiry, which bridges the divide between the academy, the museum and gallery sector and the public. This new online Masters Programme aims to expand relationships within and across cultural institutions and to maximise either new or existing work placement and employment opportunities for graduates and professionals. The programme offers a globally-recognised postgraduate qualification in a cutting-edge area of historical practice, offering opportunities to expand industry/academia partnerships.
The online delivery of the programme offers prospective students, whether already working in public cultural institutions or employed in other sectors of the economy, the opportunity to acquire a globally recognised postgraduate qualification. It is also ideal for new graduates otherwise employed and for history teachers seeking continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities in their leisure time. As an online programme it will provide complete flexibility to prospective students.
