Overview
Programme will not run in the academic year 2017/8
The MA is a one year full-time programme. It enables graduates in French, or interdisciplinary programmes including the study of French to degree level, to perfect their language skills and to study in depth areas of language, literature, culture and society in the French-speaking world. It also functions as an introduction to postgraduate research in the key areas studied.
Because of its emphasis on language skills and on second language acquisition, the programme is of particular interest to teachers of French and to those planning a career in French Studies in higher education. This qualification will enhance career prospects in several areas, including teaching French in second level or in higher education, or in any area where a high level of communication skills in French is necessary, such as business and administration in European and international contexts. The MA also provides a sound basis for doctoral research.
Aims and objectives:
- To provide in-depth study of aspects of French language, literature, culture and society in the French-speaking world;
- To introduce students to theoretical issues in the above areas;
- To give students experience of postgraduate research through the writing of a minor dissertation.
