Brief Description

This programme will open for applications information for the next intake in 2024. Funded places are offered on a first-come first-served basis, but these are limited and are strictly subject to Springboard+/HCI eligibility. Once the funded places have been filled, the course may remain open for those who wish to apply for a self-financed place.

The Professional Diploma in Supply Chain Management will equip graduates with supply chain management theories and concepts for practical application in the workplace.

This course is eligible for Springboard funding.

This programme forms part of the MSc in Supply Chain Operations.  Those who have completed this programme may continue on to the MSc. If you are planning to progress to the Masters, please be aware that this is available as an executive apprenticeship with 85% funding. More details on the funded Masters programme.

The Professional Diploma in Supply Chain Management offers learners practical interactive knowledge required to manage today’s global supply chains. Gaining theory, current practice and skills to increase supply chain performance within their own organisations.

For whom

The programme is designed for those with a responsibility for/or actively engaged in supply chain

activities and is suited to individuals who are in a variety of industry sectors from manufacturing, health, defense forces and services.

It is ideal for individuals wishing to kick start or continue their career in supply chain management.

 

Delivery

Developed and delivered by industry and academic experts, modules are delivered online via our dedicated online learning management system facilitating a flexible learning environment.

The programme will run over two academic semesters with a duration of 5 weeks for each 6 credit module.

Course delivery is through a combination of self-instructional materials and regular webinars and

online tutorials.

 

This programme contains five taught modules spread over two semesters. The content is online with regular tutor and class interactions. 

Spring

Frameworks for Supply Chain Management 

This module introduces a wide range of frameworks to inform systematic thinking on the alignment, design, implementation and operation supply chains to promote their agility, adaptability and growth. Students engage in peer to peer discussion to develop insight and understanding of supply chain practices across own and other industries, to identify various frameworks used in supply chain operations, and to recognise supply chain management practices that influence the future success or failure of organisations.  

 

 
 

Strategic Business & Operations Management 

This module provides an overview of the strategy process and of operations management from concept to deployment. It will support the understanding of corporate strategy and strategy development, considering influencers such as environment, resources, capabilities and stakeholder needs. Support the development of a plan to operationalise strategic concepts using contemporary tools and techniques as well as understand how strategy can act as a programme of change within an organisation. 
 

Mathematical Modelling in Supply Chain  

This module provides students with knowledge on mathematical models applicable to supply chains as well as modeling and software capabilities to apply mathematical models to supply chains.  

Autumn

Marketing Technology Products 

The aim of this module is to understand and develop the key marketing concepts in business so that students can analyse and develop a marketing plan for a company including identifying and exploring the key components of market orientation, customer buyer behaviour, competitive advantage and marketing activities and practices.  
 

Simulation Modelling in Supply Chains 

This module provides students with knowledge on discrete event simulation modeling and its application to supply chains.  It also provides students with modelling and software capabilities to apply simulation to supply chain and to understand where they could be applied, what benefits it could provide and what are the challenges in its application. 

 

A student that starts the programme in Spring who successfully completes all elements of the programme, will graduate at the University of Limerick in the Summer Conferring Ceremonies of the following year. On completion of this programme students will be exempt from Year 1 of the Masters in Supply Chain Operations and are invited to join Year 2 and thus complete the Masters in 1 year.

 

Applicants require a 2.2 degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent and at least five years relevant work experience in a supply chain function. Applicants must also satisfy the English Language Requirements of the University.

The recognition of prior learning and prior experiential learning as per university policy will be applied to this course. Candidates who do not meet the minimum entry criteria may be interviewed by the Academic
