The University of Limerick is pleased to announce the timely launch of the Specialist Diploma in Strategic Leadership in the age of Digital Disruption (Level 9). Digital transformation is moving at an increasingly rapid pace and this along with the nature of new global threats requires business leaders to harness and build defensive and offensive strategic digital capabilities.
This exciting one-year diploma has been launched in line with research and feedback gathered at the Kemmy Business School on future workforce skills in line with advancing digital technologies. It has also been developed in response to government reports and policy documents such as Digital Transformation: Assessing the Impact of Digitalization on Ireland's Workforce December 2018; The Expert Group on Future Skills Needs Statement of Activity, 2017; Future Jobs Ireland 2019; Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation 2018.
This level 9 specialist diploma is designed for leaders at all levels of both private and public sector organisation who are responsible for leading technology-enable change initiatives.
The rise and increasing complexities of digital technologies has accelerated the pace of disruption in almost every industry, creating immense ambiguity and uncertainty in the broader business environment as to when, where and how business models can remain competitive. That said in addition to the many challenges, digital brings vast opportunities for organisations who embrace digital as a business competency and capability. As excitement and investment increases in these technologies, business requires leaders who are not only effective interpersonally, but who can also manage increasingly complex digital organisations. Leaders will need to foster a ‘digital-ready’ organisational culture necessitating leadership of continuous change.
To support these advances this diploma combines three critical and interrelated topics – leadership, change and digital technology. While leadership has always been about inspiring and influencing people, leaders must now be able to do this in a context where technology is becoming ever more central and changing increasingly fast. To be a successful digital leader today is therefore about leading people and organisations to leverage technology while considering the social, ethical and security aspects of leading in a digital environment.
