Brief Description
Effective leadership and mentorship are central to creating positive learning and working environments in prehospital care.
As the profession continues its transition from a primarily vocational model to a more academically grounded one, the ability to guide, support, and develop learners and junior colleagues has become increasingly important.
In this Level 8 micro‑credential, you’ll explore key leadership and management theories relevant to healthcare and examine how they apply within contemporary prehospital education. You’ll learn practical approaches to mentoring, supporting student learning, and fostering professional growth in dynamic clinical settings.
Throughout the module, you’ll deepen your understanding of how effective leadership behaviours shape team performance, how structured mentorship enhances learning, and how you can contribute to a positive, supportive clinical culture.
By the end of the module, you will be equipped to apply evidence‑based leadership and mentoring strategies in your daily practice, create supportive learning opportunities for students and staff, and critically reflect on your evolving role as a leader and mentor in prehospital care.
This module is associated with the Bachelor of Science in Paramedic Studies (Practitioner Entry). It can be taken as a standalone University Certificate of Study (UCOS) or as part of a pathway to a larger award.
During this module, you will:
- Explore and analyse a range of clinical leadership and management models used within the healthcare setting.
- Examine the benefits of effective mentorship for the mentor, the mentee, and the wider organisation.
- Practise and apply evidence‑based mentoring strategies in the contemporary clinical environment.
- Develop a practical mentorship plan that can be integrated into daily work routines to support all stakeholders.
- Reflect on your own experiences — and those of your organisation — in relation to leadership.
- Reflect on personal and institutional experiences of mentorship, identifying strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
