Celebration of Yennayer, the Amazigh (Berber) New Year - Wednesday, January 12th
We are delighted to welcome you to a special celebration of ‘Yennayer, the Amazigh (Berber) New Year’. In this online event, two of our ISPhD students, Kamilia Mebarki and Sarah Smail will share their insights into the customs and traditions of this celebration. They have prepared a presentation, which will be followed by a Q&A session. Both Kamilia and Sarah will be dressed in their traditional outfits for this online event.
Kamilia Mebarki is a 3rd year PhD student studying Applied Linguistics. Her research area is Interculturality/Intercultural competence and her thesis topic is Investigating Intercultural Competence in the Algerian High School EFL Textbook ‘New Prospects’. Kamilia is from Algeria / Tizi-Ouzou (situated in the north centre of Algeria, and it is considered as the second largest Kabyle region in the country).
Sarah Smail is a 3rd year PhD student studying Applied Linguistics. Her research area is Semiotic landscaping and language minorities and her thesis topic is ‘Investigating the language (in)equalities in the Algerian Public Space: A Semiotic Landscape Analysis of the Business Domain’. Sarah is also from from Algeria / Tizi-Ouzou (situated in the north centre of Algeria, and it is considered as the second largest Kabyle region in the country).
