AWEC 2019

Mahdi Ebrahimi Salari and Cathal W. O’Donnell, MaREI funded researchers at CRIS UL, attended AWEC 2019, held in Glasgow from 15-16th October. Altogether more than 220 delegates from 21 countries across Europe and abroad, scientists and engineers, entrepreneurs and investors gathered to share their experiences, findings, opportunities and visions for airborne wind energy

They presented a paper “A Study on Power Transmission Techniques for Marine Airborne Wind Energy Farms”. AWEC2019 is a biennial conference focusing on airborne wind energy as a new emerging renewable energy system for power generation. Mahdi and Cathal have been working on new power transmission and integration technologies for marine wind energy systems. Both commented that it was a great learning component, the conference was also the perfect platform to network within the emerging community.
