Open pedagogical practice

Sharing of open pedagogical practices with technology is at the core of our teaching philosophy. We advocate for open scholarship by engaging in open practice, promoting the use of OER and OEP with teaching staff, and conducting open education research. We led the Learning Resources and Open Access in Higher Education Institutions in Ireland National Forum Focused Research project in collaboration with partners from across the sector, whose results have been disseminated in the International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning.

Currently, we lead a working package for the EU Erasmus+ project Sharing open education practices using technology.

We participate in the development of the National Forum’s strategy on open courses and participate in the design and delivery of a number of these. Currently, we are working on the online delivery for “Academic Writing Online', ‘Open Educational Resources and Open Educational Practice’, ‘Getting Started with Online Teaching’ Facilitator course and ‘Reflective practice’.

We have recently contributed to a new National Forum resource on ‘Using Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) for Teaching and Learning’, which is now available. We hope that the content and curated resources will be useful to individuals seeking to learn more about using OER and OEP. We invite open conversation and feedback on these resources as we go on to develop an open course in this area. Whether you are an expert or novice user of OER/OEP, or anywhere in between, we welcome your feedback. We invite you to share your comments and feedback in any of the following ways:

  • Add your comments here on the site, directly on the relevant pages
  • Engage in conversation on Twitter, using the hashtag #NFopen
  • Email with your feedback or further queries
