COVIDWATCHIRL Role of GP

General practice has been at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19 in Ireland. The initial wave of COVID illness was picked up first in general practice with associated very high levels of testing which within a very short time frame were done via the online platform, Healthlink, linked to Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) in practices nationally.

The battle against COVID-19 is going to take place in our communities, as we are the vectors for this virus.

The role of GPs in identification of cases for testing will continue to play a vital in the response to controlling this pandemic particularly as we begin to release restrictions that are in place.

But we also need to make sure there is not massive collateral damage from people not presenting to general practice out of fear of contracting COVID19. In response to this pandemic general practice has transformed the way it operates to reduce risk to a minimum for all patients attending. So please do not hesitate to contact us about any illness whether related to COVID-19 or not.
