FAQs & Checklist

Graduate Conferrings

Use the checklist below to help you to prepare for graduation day and to ensure that the day is an enjoyable and memorable occasion for you and your guests.

We recommend that graduands do not take phones, cameras or bags with them into the ceremony.     Please give these to your guests before registration for safekeeping.

It is acceptable for your guests to take photographs during the ceremony but must remain in their seats throughout the ceremony and refrain from using flash photography.    Please ensure that mobile phones are on silent mode during the ceremony.

We encourage you to celebrate your success by sharing photographs on social media with the hashtag #ULGraduation

Have you paid all fees, cleared all debts to the University (including outstanding library fines) and returned all books to the library? You must do so by May to be eligible to graduate in June, by July to be able to graduate in August and by December to be able to graduate in January.

Ensure your guests are aware of the dress code (i.e. smart business attire).

Have you ordered your academic robes? Robes are collected on the day of the graduation from EG010 at specified times.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission requires us to inform all students that they are free to search for academic gowns on their own behalf. A graduand may arrange to source robes from another supplier but must ensure that the gown and colours conform fully to University of Limerick standards.

Have you given your guests their admission tickets?

Do you or your guests have special seating requirements? If so, be sure to complete and submit the online special seating requirement form in advance of the ceremonies.

Ensure that your guests are aware of their entry point to the Foundation Building (the East entrance, across the courtyard from UL's Main Reception) and tell them to be seated half an hour before the ceremony begins (i.e. by 10h45 or 14h45, whichever time applies to your ceremony).

Have you confirmed your intention to attend a dress rehearsal prior to your ceremony? Your attendance at the rehearsal is compulsory, and you must wear your robes. Please ensure that you completed the online form confirming your attendance.

The ceremony lasts between an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes and is followed by a post-conferring reception.

Graduands must be robed, present and in compliance with the dress code by 10h00 for the morning ceremony and 14h00 for the afternoon ceremony.

Babies and children under 14 years are not permitted to attend the ceremony. They may view the ceremony live on a large screen in a lecture theatre in the Foundation Building beside the Concert Hall. Supervision is not provided.

Each graduand will receive two Adult Guest tickets for their ceremony. Requests for extra tickets cannot be accommodated due to finite capacity within the Concert Hall. The tickets will be posted to the graduand’s address registered with Student Records. Your adult guests must bring their tickets with them to gain admission to the Foundation Building and the ceremony. The ceremony will be streamed live over the internet; links to the streaming site are available on the graduation web page. If there are any spare tickets available on the day, they will be distributed from a ticket desk located near EGO-10 in advance of the ceremony.

Please complete and submit the online special seating requirement form in advance of the ceremony so that we can provide you and your guests with the services you require. Alternatively, email with details in advance and we will make the best available arrangements to suit their and your requirements.
