The Limerick and Tipperary Samaritans provide emotional support round the clock for anyone experiencing feelings of distress or despair. We provide a safe space to talk about how you are feeling. As volunteers we’re ordinary people, and we keep all conversations private. As well as being available to talk on the phone at any time, visitors are also welcome to our Centre on Barrington St. in Limerick 365 days a year. You don't need an appointment and the service is completely free of charge. As well as answering telephone calls, emails and texts, and spending time with people who call in, we are also engaged with the community outside the branch. Our outreach work includes working with schools, the local prison and other organisations to help people in distress and to make sure that people are aware of our service. As a branch we are always looking for support locally so that we can provide a safe place for people to be themselves and to talk to us confidentially about whatever might be troubling them.
There are lots of ways you can volunteer for Samaritans. You could become a listening volunteer, helping us to answer calls and messages from people who need some support. And there are a range of other opportunities available too. Our branches across the UK and Ireland are always looking for support with marketing, fundraising, or even helping out in one of our shops. It all depends on what you're good at and what you've got time for.
