Immune or At-Risk? Financial Markets and the Significance of the COVID-19 Pandemic

The economic effects of the COVID-19 crisis will resonate throughout the financial sector long after the pandemic has subsided. My research lies in the field of financial markets and economics, with a quantitative and qualitative assessment on the impact of unforeseen crises, such as COVID-19. As such, my early research so far has focused extensively on the implications the pandemic has presented to financial markets. Firstly, the research quantifies the impact of COVID-19 related data on financial markets while controlling for traditional financial market drivers. Following this, it now addresses the impact of central bank interventions on financial market performance throughout the pandemic using an event-study methodology.

At its core, my research seeks to identify the tangible insights which can subsequently inform preparations for future adversarial events, advising governments, regulators, investors, and all relevant economic stakeholders.
