Commercial Management of Projects

One particular facet that is core to the success of projects is the cycle of estimating, costing, budgeting and subsequent tracking and control of these engagements. This two day programme will focus on these particular dimensions, linked to the other relevant project finance and budgeting topics.

  • This course will be of interest to anyone who needs a grounding in all financial, budgeting and tracking issues relating to project finance and cost management.
  • Project Managers and project team members whose accountabilities include the financial management of project budgets.

Aims and Objectives

On completion participants will learn:

  • How to develop and manage a project budget from beginning to end.
  • How to use capital budgeting techniques and ROI techniques such as net present value.
  • How to track and control project budgets using earned value.
  • How to track and manage a Project P&L.
  • Change Control processes and other control tools.

  • The Pay-back period and the revenue / cost index
  • Time Value of Money and the need for more sophisticated techniques
  • Net Present Value and Internal Rate of return
  • Estimating & Budgeting
  • Capital Budgeting
  • Capital Costing vs. Activity Costing
  • Direct & Indirect Costing

Day 2

  • Allocations and Projects
  • Tracking & Controlling Budgets
  • Earned Value
  • Cost Variance & Time Variance
  • Forecasting and trends
  • Project P&L's and Margin tracking
  • Change Control
