Rory Costello is a senior lecturer in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at UL. He received his PhD from Trinity College Dublin, and then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Twente in the Netherlands and at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His research focuses on electoral and legislative politics in Ireland, Europe, and the EU. He is particularly interested in questions related to the quality of political representation, including the relationship between the policy preferences of voters and parties, and party manifestos and their fulfilment. His research has appeared in a variety of international journals including (among others) Party Politics, European Union Politics, Journal of European Public Policy, European Journal of Political Research, Electoral Studies, West European Politics, and American Journal of Political Science. He is the co-editor of Comparative European Politics: Distinctive Democracies, Common Challenges (Oxford University Press), the second edition of which is in preparation. He runs the WhichCandidate.ie voting aid application.
