Perspectives: Artistic Practice & Research: Friday, 24 September, 2021 11am-5pm
On behalf of IMBAS and Solstice Arts Centre, Professor Mel Mercier hosted a one-day, online gathering of artists and scholars to explore the relationship between research and artistic practice. Supporting the development of a community of artists and arts practice researchers within and beyond academic institutions, the event was funded under the Irish Research Council New Foundations 2020 scheme. The event included presentations from artists, scholars and artist-scholars, including Danny McCarthy, Lisa McLaughlin, Wayne Jordan, Kathleen Turner, Brian Fay and Tríona Ní Shíocháin. Presentations to more than 100 attendees explored research practices in music, theatre, visual art and dance. The event included the launch of a new book, The Artist and Academia, which is co-edited by Professor Helen Phelan and Graham Welsh (Routledge 2021). The event was recorded and will soon be available for viewing on the IMBAS - An Irish Forum for Arts Practice Researchers and Artists | Working within and beyond the University sector. website.
