Abstract: Non-Jewish Germans born around 1968 increasingly see themselves as reliving the World War Two traumas their grandparents were not allowed to mourn – of Allied bombardments, forced migrations, and mass rapes. Here, they turn to the concept of transgenerational trauma. In his lecture, Jan Plamper presents a genealogy and critique of the concept, detailing how it has prepared the ground for the emergence of a “Psycho-Right,” a loose alliance between traditionally leftist psychotherapy milieux and the Neue Rechte (New Right).
