So How Does it Feel to Sing Home?

Singer/songwriter and Irish traditional musician Claire Watts, a third year PhD Arts Practice student at the Irish World Academy, presents her first PhD performance –  a suite of 6 newly composed songs and music.  The title of Claire’s research is  ‘An Arts Practice Exploration into Place, Space and Identity within Irish Songwriting Practice’. The performance features songs and music written about various locations in Ireland, created as a response to an exploration into how meaningful connection to place can be expressed through song composition.

Following the performance there will be a round table Q&A session where Claire will interact with the audience, allowing discussion and seeking feedback on the performance, as well as the rationale for integrating songs of place into her research.
