Bio: Dr Áine Furlong's work in language learning and teaching is motivated by two key issues, namely the immediate relevance of language learning to the learner as well as the development of plurilingual/cultural awareness in the individual within society. More specifically, her work focuses on the teaching of subjects through modern languages - Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) -, as well as on the relation of creativity to plurilingualism/culturalism. More recently, her work has concentrated on the development of a pedagogy for online learning.
She has worked in language education in Ireland, Europe and the Middle-East and currently works as a lecturer of French and intercultural communication as well as a facilitator for blended learning at Waterford Institute of Technology where she was course leader for the MA in Second language Teaching and Learning. She is currently working on the online delivery of a CLIL programme for teachers in the primary and post-primary sectors.
