Dr Kevin Sweeney, PhD in Law (UL)
 
Kevin spent almost 30 years in An Garda Síochána in various roles including as a Special Branch Detective, Covert Intelligence Operative, and as a Supervisor. Kevin’s occupational police training included Criminal Assets Profiler, Anti-Counterfeiting Operations LEA, Intellectual Property Fraud Investigator, as well as specialised training in counter-terrorism and intelligence operations. Some of this training included training given by the Central Intelligence Agency and the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Kevin holds a Master’s degree in Criminology from University College Cork and obtained his PhD degree from the School of Law UL in 2017. His research focuses on the jurisprudence and psychology of investigative interviewing in Ireland. He also evaluated the training and new interview model introduced in the Gardaí against best international practice.
