Dr Karol Mullaney-Dignam has been awarded a Royal Irish Academy Charlemont Grant for 2015. The Royal Irish Academy’s Charlemont Grants are competitive awards for early-career researchers, funding travel for short international research trips, supporting primary research and facilitating access to important cultural resources. Dr Mullaney-Dignam will travel to a number of institutions in Wales to conduct historical research for a comparative study of community music on the Dunraven estates in the South-West of Ireland and South Wales during the nineteenth century.

Published in Jesuit Publication Studies, an Irish Quarterly Review Winter 2014/15 Vol.103 No. 412

The article is based on a paper Martin gave at the Jesuit conference in September entitled: ‘Under the influence the Jesuits in Ireland’ which celebrated their 200 year in Ireland.

Tuesday October 7 marked the 90th anniversary of Ireland-U.S. diplomatic relations. Prof. Timothy A. Smiddy presented his credentials as Ambassador (Minister Plenipotentiary) of the Irish Free State to President Coolidge on that date in 1924.

Professor Bernadette Whelan gave a paper 'Recognising the Irish Free State: The appointment of Timothy Smiddy as the first Irish Free State minister to the United States' at the Seminar 'A Unique Relationship': Celebrating NinetyYears of Ireland - United States Relations / A seminar on the First Decades of Irish Diplomacy in America' held in Washington DC.
