GEMS Professor of Surgery and 4i Deputy Director J Calvin Coffey delivered the Robert Smith Lecture at the Annual Congress of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland in Glasgow on Friday 3rd May 2017. Prof Coffey spoke on "The Foundation of Colorectal Surgery". The lecture is invited by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and named for Robert William Smith (1807-73), an Irish surgeon who described Smith's fracture of the wrist in his book, the first written on fractures by an Irish author.
