ULSSC : Club Dinghy Sailing

The mainstay activity of the club is dinghy sailing on Lough Derg ever Tuesday evening from late March to early October . This activity to mainly divided up into a few focused events. Starting the sailing year off is the Spring Challenge, which happens soon after the the clock goes forward(late March). It is an open dinghy sailing event, PY handicaps apply, and all are welcome, any many do come from clubs both near and far.

 

Dinghy sailing every Tuesday evening commences for the remainder of the summer months, new members receive their introductions to the club and soon it is time to start the June Series which provides an good means of allowing new members to learn more from the more experiences members. For the month of June both a Race Officer and a Saftey Officer are on duty on the lake and 2-3 races are held each Tuesday evening. Members not taking part in the races casually sail around not too far from the race area.

 

Near the end of the season a September Series of races are organised where skills are tested. For this there is a best new beginners sailing prize along with an over all winner prize.

 

Along with dinghy sailing on Lough Derg, some large yacht sailing is also organised, depending on how many are interested in doing so within the club, for more >>
