Dr. Laugier's research interests include indentation fracture mechanics,
surface engineering tribology (magnetic storage devices, copper metallization,
biomedical implants and cutting tools), surface /coating modification by ion
implantation, properties/microstructure relationships in WC-Co cutting tools,
polymers, ceramics, hard protective coatings (DLC, CN, TiN and CrN). An example
of his recent work is a morphology study by AFM of nanodomes in rf magnetron
sputtered CNx. These novel materials are both hard and elastic and may have
future biomedical applications.
