The following questions proposed by Ireland have been chosen for the IMO.
- 2003 Question 5
- 1988 Question 4
Prove that the set of solutions of the inequality
\sum_{k=1}^{k=70} \frac{k}{x-k} \geq \frac{5}{4}
is the union of non-intersecting intervals whose lengths have sum equal to
1988.
- 1993 Question 1
Let f(x) = x^n +5x^(n-1)+3 where n>1 is an integer.
Prove that f(x) cannot be expressed as the product of two polynomials, each
of which has all its coefficients integers and degree at least 1.
