Maurice Gunning:
Photographer-in-Residence...
Maurice Gunning has been working closely with the Irish music and performing arts scene since his graduation from the Limerick School of Art & Design in 1999. Over the past number of years he has expanded his photographic career and in 2005 was asked to join the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance as photographer-in-residence. Over the past eight years, his photographs have been used to archive and document the growing artistic resource, which is the Irish World Academy. October 2004 saw Gunning’s first large solo photographic show at the Bourne Vincent Gallery at the University of Limerick. The exhibition, entitled ‘Casadh – at the still point’ was an inaugural event that launched Sionna 2004, the Irish World Academy’s international festival of World Music and Dance. The collection of 11 large framed lambda prints was acquired in its entirety by the IWA, with the assistance of Aonad na Gaeilge and the UL Arts Office.
Gunning has also been working closely with Limerick’s well established Island Theatre Co. His first commission with Island produced a solo show of photographs in the Beltable Arts Centre from their production of Brian Friel’s Lovers. This exhibition was also purchased by Island Theatre Co. Recent CD photography includes Tony O’Connell & Andy Morrow with Arty McGlynn, The Mulcahy Family’s recent CD as well as many others. The majority of photographs throughout this web site are part of his work at the Irish World Academy and are marked with ©MG when rolled over.
