Kerry.
Since the commencement of the MA in Irish Traditional Dance Performance programme at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in 1999, the Trustees of Muckross House, Killarney, have generously offered a scholarship to the programme over two three-year periods.
The Trustees of Muckross House Scholarship is therefore awarded to a student on the MA Irish Traditional Dance Performance programme. The award is competitive and is based on application. To apply for this scholarship please forward your curriculum vitae together with a cover letter indicating your experience in dance, your interest in the MA Irish Traditional Dance Performance programme, and the reasons why you think that you should be considered for this scholarship.
The Muckross House Scholarship application should be sent to me at the address below. This should accompany a copy of your completed postgraduate application form for a place on the MA Irish Traditional Dance Performance programme; the main copy is forwarded to the Admissions Office at the University of Limerick.
A successful interview and audition is an entry requirement for this programme. These will also be part of the Trustees of Muckross House scholarship process. Candidates can either audition live or should they be living overseas then a DVD audition is acceptable (the DVD is sent to me). This DVD should include an introduction where the candidate, one, introduces him or herself; two, provides a brief background to his or her experience in Irish dance; and three, states why they wish to be considered for the programme. The actual audition which follows should include four dances including Reel, Jig, Hornpipe or Slip Jig (A solo set dance can replace either the Jig or Hornpipe). One of the four dances may include a dance of the candidate’s choice; this may or may not be an ‘Irish’ dance. The audition should demonstrate the technical, musical and artistic competence of the candidate.
For further information on the programme please see the Irish World Academy website at www.irishworldacademy.ie; or contact me directly (see contact details below).
