Entrance Requirements
Applicants are required to hold at the time of enrolment the Established Leaving Certificate (or an approved equivalent) with at least Grade C3 in two Higher Level subjects and a Grade D3 in four Ordinary or Higher level subjects (including Mathematics; Irish or another language; and English). Applicants must also attend an audition and their application must be approved by the panel at that audition.
Access and Eligibility:
- Expertise is only required in one performance area prior to commencing the course
- Irish students must apply through the CAO system (Leaving Certificate music is not a prerequisite)
- This is a restricted access course- EU students must apply through the CAO before February 1st in the year during which they wish to commence their studies
- Non-EU students should contact the International Office for further details.
- Mature Students should contact Admissions for relevant closing dates for applications.
Career Opportunities:
The BA in Irish Music and Dance is designed to produce performers who will play or dance professionally. Great emphasis is also placed on the development of transferable vocational skills, enabling you to access a diverse range of less obvious career pathways. It is a fact that very few performers of music and dance in any tradition make their living solely as performers - this degree recognises that fact and introduces you to music and arts business and management, technology, education etc. Through this we would for example expect to see former students as:
- Professional performers
- Second level music teaching- recognised by Teachers Registration Council
- Choreography and composition
- Education and community arts
- Preparation for postgraduate programmes
- Media- audio and video recording, radio, television, and theatre
- Private practice and consultancy
- Health and Leisure
