Bealach...
Outreach activity is something that is written into the central ethos of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. The Irish World Music Centre has had since its inception the twin energies of community outreach (Bealach, the Irish word for ‘pathway’) and artists in residence (Cónaí - the Irish world for residence). These energies inform many aspects of the central ring of M.A. and B.A. Programmes.

Listed left are our current outreach programmes which engage local, national and international communities. Among these are two special initiatives coordinated by the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and funded by the Higher Education Authority– NOMAD and SANCTUARY. NOMAD celebrates Traveller culture while SANCTUARY works with the refugee and asylum seeking community in Ireland. Both of these initiatives are designed to increase access to, and awareness of Higher Education opportunities for these under-represented groups. Both have developed an attitude towards music curricular design that reflects the traditions of the cultural groups in question as well as the musical requirements of Higher Education in Ireland.
