Blas

Lectures

The Academic Co-Ordinator of Blas 2009 is Aileen Dillane, (performer, ethnomusicologist, and lecturer on the BA in Irish Music and Dance in the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick). This year’s suite of lectures at Blas coheres under the thematic banner of ‘The Meaning of Tradition’.

Concept:

Lecturers from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and invited guests will offer intense engagements on a wide variety of music, song, and dance subjects, from multiple perspectives, on the ways in which ‘Tradition’ is conceived, performed, practiced, contested, and lived. This focus on ideas and discourse will weave in and around practical classes, encouraging students to be come critically engaged with their practice, and to reflect upon this very idea of what constitutes ‘Tradition’
