UL remain unbeaten in this years league following this hard fought draw with CIT. UL were fortunate to be within striking distance of CIT at
half time as the visitors ran riot in the opening half. CIT droped their corner forward out as a third midfielder and this caused UL a lot of problems.
The UL defence took a lot of time to adjust and couterack the space CIT were creating and were trailing by five points midway through the first half.
UL had two points apiece from Alan Kennedy and Ainle O'Cairealain in the first half and thanks to some very accurate free taking from Alan Egan
went in at half time having reduced the deficit to two points, 0-9 to 0-7.
The UL substitutes were very influential in turning around this game and gradually they got on top in this second half. Centre forward O’Cairealain
was to the fore in UL’s second half performance and scored three fine points to bring them level with the vistors. Egan continued to find the range
from placed balls and futher scores from Matt Ruth and Seamus Hickey left the final score at 0-14 points apiece.
UL’s second half performance was far superior to their first and apart from O’Cairealain and Egan UL had good performances from Pa
Donnellan and Brendan Bugler while Seamus Hickey and Noel O’Muiricú impressed in the second half. This result has secured UL a home
draw in the semi final stage off the league.
