As the score line suggests this was a convincing win for LIT. UL were very disappointing and it was a poor team performance. The fact that this was
UL’s first outing together as a team was very obvious as opposed to LIT who had two league games played previous to today. Despite this bad
start its not all doom and gloom for the team as they have two weeks to prepare for their next outing, they will also be hoping to have inter county
players Kieran Joyce, Matty Whelan and Seamus Hickey back to full fitness.
LIT started very well and had two goals and three points on the board with UL’s sole reply coming from the stick of Ryan O Dwyer. UL reduced
the margin thanks to a point each from Ger Scales and Ryan O Dwyer however LIT were in superior form and added another goal and four
points in quick succession. Although carrying an injury UL introduced Seamus Hickey and this lifted the helped matters as UL added six points
before the break from O Dwyer, Scales, Hichey and Martin Walsh. This left the half time score at 3-07 to 0-09.
The anticipated fight back from UL never materialised and the lack of heart and determination amoung these players is an issue the management
will have to deal with. LIT scored a goal and five points with UL’s only reply a Ger Scales point. UL had points from substitute Denis O’Connor,
Ger Scales and Semau Hickey before Ryan O’Dwyer flicked a late goal to the back of the LIT. In what was a very disappointing opening
performance UL’s best performers on the day were Ryan O’Dwyer, Seamus Hickey and Ger Scales.
