To
enable school-leavers with proven ability and interest in languages to
acquire a high level of communication skills in at least two
languages.

give students a specialist knowledge of the societies in which those
languages are spoken and expertise in the area of cross-cultural
communication.

provide the option of specialising in an area corresponding to each
student's particular interests and leading to a career where
linguistic skills are in demand.

Through
the Cooperative Education programme, ERASMUS or LINGUA (in future
SOCRATES) exchanges, to give students experience of living, working
and/or studying in countries in which the languages of their choice
are spoken.
