John Marcus O’Sullivan Summer School

The John Marcus O’Sullivan Summer School, which Dr Joanne O' Flaherty and Dr Orla McCormack (Education & Professional Studies) are involved in organising, will be held at the University of Limerick in June 2013.

This Summer School continues a tradition established by the VECs in Kerry in the 1970’s, to commemorate the memory of John Marcus O’Sullivan, Professor of History, T.D. for Kerry who was the Minister for Education 1927-1932, and the Minister who steered the Vocational Education Act, 1930, into law. The John Marcus O’Sullivan Summer School aims to address the issues to the distinctive role of publicly managed schools in relation to notions of citizenship and belonging by providing an opportunity for debate, discussion and learning.

The focus of the 2013 Summer School will be “Empowerment and Student/Teacher Responsibility within Publicly Managed Schools”.

JMOS is funded and supported by Kerry Education Service, County Dublin Vocational Education Committee, ICEA and the University of Limerick.
