The Faculty of Science & Engineering Structure

The Faculty of Science and Engineering at University of Limerick (UL) is located in the heart of the university's award-winning campus, we are dedicated to developing graduates that can become leaders for a sustainable future globally. 

We have eight Schools and Departments in the Faculty: Department of Biological Sciences, Department of Chemical Sciences, Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Department of Physics, School of Architecture, School of Design and School of Engineering.

We host the following Research Institutes and CentersBernal Institute,  Lero, SSPC, MACSI, PMTC, DPTC, DMARC, ICOMP, Confirm and Interactive Design Centre.

As part of the Universities governance University Governance | University of Limerick (ul.ie), the Faculty's Executive Dean and Assistant Deans in Research, Academic Affairs, Teaching, Learning & Assessment and Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and International sits on many of the University's committees and represent the Faculty of Science and Engineering. 

Internally, the Faculty has a number of academic, management, operational and special interest committees.  Many of these committee’s report into the Faculty Board and Faculty Management Committee.

Faculty Management Committee

Faculty Management Commitee members are the Executive Dean, Heads of Schools and Departments and the Assistant Deans. They meet monthly and information is disseminated to the respective Heads to the Schools and Departments and relevant committees, see image above. The Executive Dean is the Chairperson and the Assistant Deans in Research, Academic Affairs, Teaching, Learning & Assessment and Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and International play a significant role is reporting to the board updates on progress in their respective areas.

Faculty Board

Faculty Board members are all the faculty academic staff, representatives from UL central academic and support services, research staff, professional management, and student representatives. The board meets twice per semester. The Executive Dean is the Chairperson, and the Assistant Deans provide updates updates on progress in their respective areas.
