Nexus based Chris Kelly secures title as Limerick’s Best Young Entrepreneur

Limerick’s Best Young Entrepreneur, Chris Kelly, Founder Pinpoint Innovations

Chris Kelly, founder of Pinpoint Innovations has won the title of Limerick’s Best Young Entrepreneur at the IBYE award ceremony held in the Strand Hotel last week.

Pinpoint Innovations, based in the UL Nexus Innovation Centre has developed a solution for perioperative care teams, focusing on providing better conditions for patients pre, during and post operation.  At its core, it is a patient and bed tracking system, taking the data recorded they are able to conduct patient-centric analysis to help improve the process as a whole, leading to increased efficiency and drastically fewer cancellations.

The 20 year old has also been selected as the Best Start-Up Business during the event which was attended by Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Stephen Keary, Minister of State at the Department of Finance Patrick O’Donovan and guest speaker Colm O Brien, CEO of Carambola Kids.

Other winners on the night included Best Idea Category: Padraic Hayes- and Best Established Business: Dr Paddy Finn - Electricity Exchange. The winners and runners-up in Limerick will share in an investment fund of €50,000 which will help them to grow their business and build on current success.

Category winners will go forward to represent Limerick in the regional finals where they will compete with the winners from Kerry, Clare and Tipperary for the right to compete in the national finals.

The National Finals will take place on Sunday 4 March 2018 at Google HQ and the winners of the competition will share in an investment fund of €100,000.

IBYE is a programme run by the 31 Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs), including LEO Limerick with the support of the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland. The competition is open to people between the ages of 18 and 35 with an innovative business idea, new start-up or established business. Now in its 4th year, IBYE has an investment fund of up to €2 million and there is a €50,000 county investment fund on offer to local winners and runners-up in Limerick.

IBYE is run locally by Local Enterprise Office Limerick across three categories: Best Business Idea, Best Start-Up Business and Best Established Business.
