The call for nominations for the Irish Research Council 2019 Researcher of the Year awards is now open. The competition is open to holders of awards from the Irish Research Council. UL can nominate researchers under two categories:
Category one — Researcher of the Year
One award will be made to a person currently working in research in an academic institution who is, or has previously been, a named awardee of the Council, and who has made an exceptional contribution to research in their field.
This category will be evaluated on the basis of: excellence in research — on the basis of published work; national and international acknowledgements; research awards secured; demonstration of leadership in their field; communication of their research; and impact of their research on knowledge, society or innovation.
Category two — Early-Career Researcher of the Year
One award will be made to an early-career researcher currently working in research in an academic institution who is, or previously has been, a named awardee of the Council, and who has demonstrated an exceptional level of achievement in their field at this stage in their career.
This category will be evaluated on the basis of: excellence in research — on the basis of track record appropriate to their career stage; demonstration of potential to become a leader in their field; communication of their research; and potential to evolve into an inspiring role model for new researchers.
Nominees under the two categories must be persons who, in their own name, applied for and received funding from the Council under one or more of the following categories: Postgraduate scholarship schemes, Postdoctoral fellowship schemes, Research project awards including all principal investigator-led awards, e.g., COALESCE, Research of Policy and Society, New Horizons, Laureate Awards. A past awardee of a Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting Award or New Foundations Award is eligible to apply only if they have also held one or more of the Council’s research awards in their own name.
Nominees must complete the relevant form (below) to be considered. The completed form should be sent before 5 pm on Tuesday 10th September 2019 to their designated Assistant Dean for Research (see list below). Each Faculty will progress one male and one female in each category to the UL independent assessment panel who will select one male and one female applicant from each category for submission to the Irish Research Council.
