The University of Limerick became the first Irish university to become a member of the prestigious National Academy of Inventors (NAI). The National Academy of Inventors comprises of US and international universities, governmental and non-profit research institutions and has over 3,000 inventor members and Fellows spanning 200 institutions. Among the members are Nobel Laureates and world top 5 ranked universities including Harvard, Yale and MIT.
RTÉ News anchor Bryan Dobson has been appointed as Adjunct Professor of Public Service Broadcast Journalism. Mr Dobson, who is main anchor of the flagship Six One News programme on RTÉ One television, is one of the most respected broadcasters in Ireland. He will take up his appointment on September 1 for a three-year period.

Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD, officially launched the award-winning Graduate Entry Medical School at the University of Limerick. The Building was designed by Grafton Architects, and was the winner of RIBA 2013 EU Award and a finalist in the highly prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize. Lero, the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre, which is supported by Science Foundation Ireland, has won industry commitments worth in excess of €400,000 for software modernisation programmes.
“The reality is that there is a lot of old software out there which is still at the heart of many critical applications, particularly in the area of financial transactions. For example, more than 50 years after the COBOL language was invented, the stark fact is that there are 200 times more COBOL transactions daily than Google searches,” commented Professor Brian Fitzgerald, Chief Scientist, Lero.
