Brief Description of the Aim of the PhD Project:

Depressed people are thought to perceive less control over the events that occur in their environment, whereas non-depressed people display an illusion of control (Alloy & Abramson, 1979). Recent studies indicated that changes in the way that background or environmental information is processed might play a role in what is known as depressive realism (Msetfi et al., 2005, 2007). The aim of the current PhD project is to understand the relations between cognitive processes, such as rumination, which influence the processing of background information, and depression, and perception of control.
