Master of Arts in Development / Graduate Diploma in Development
These postgraduate programmes provide a comprehensive grounding in development theory and practice. They are designed to prepare students from diverse backgrounds for a career in development and related fields, and for development practitioners aiming to reflect upon and augment their professional expertise. Each programme is offered on a full-time basis. Core modules are supplemented by electives, chosen from a wide range of courses; the aim is to enable students to develop expertise in their area of interest.
Students on the MA Development programme have the opportunity to undertake an individually supervised written dissertation and are given extensive guidance in the practical and theoretical challenges of independent academic research.

Entry Requirements
Masters in Development: A primary degree in a social science or cognate discipline, with an overall result of a first or second-class honours degree, or an approved equivalent qualification. Candidates with degrees in other subjects may be considered and may be asked for interview or to provide other evidence of suitability for admission. Candidates should be proficient in the use of English.
Graduate Diploma in Development: Applicants should normally hold a primary degree in a social science or in a cognate discipline or an approved equivalent qualification. Applicants without the above but who have substantial relevant professional experience may also be considered for admission in accordance with university regulations. Candidates should be proficient in the use of English.
Students registered for the Graduate Diploma in Development who attain the standard of second class honours grade one and who have elected to take the prescribed module in research methodology may, on the submission of an appropriate research proposal, be permitted to transfer to the MA in Development register at the discretion of the Course Board.
